Alleged burglar on the run shot by Westminster motorcycle cop

An alleged burglary at 103rd and Dover in Westminster ended with one man shot by a Westminster Police officer on 92nd and Fenton St., just north of the Brunswick Lanes Bowling alley.

Westminster Police Investigator Cheri Spottke said the alleged burglary was reported to police at about 1:50 p.m. near the Walnut Creek Apartments. At the time, Spottke said she did not know if the alleged burglary was in the apartments or in a nearby storage area.

Police tried to contact a man and woman in a maroon Jeep SUV, but the suspects fled. The woman fled on foot and was quickly arrested.

The man allegedly drove off in the maroon Jeep, winding up at 92nd and Harlan, where he ran the intersection's red light and drove towards the Westminster Downtown area.

“As the vehicle was coming through the parking lot, a motorcycle officer attempted to make a stop on the vehicle,” Spottke said. “The vehicle intentionally swerved at that motorcycle officer and that officer drew his gun and fired a round at this vehicle.”

The vehicle drove across 92nd Avenue at Fenton Street, across a median and came to rest along a fence there.

Spottke said the driver was taken to an area hospital and treated for a gunshot wound. The woman arrested on 103rd and Dover was being questioned, Spottke said.

Spottke said drivers should avoid the area, especially 92nd Avenue which will be closed between Sheridan and Harlan for the duration of the afternoon.

The story will be updated as more details are released.
