Anythink libraries plan parties as summer coasts to end

The end of July means that summer is heading toward a close for everyone, but each branch of the Anythink libray system plans to mark that occasion in its own way as the system’s mySummer programming concludes.

The Commerce City branch plans a backyard movie night after dark on July 27, while the Wright Farms branch plans their celebration with a petting zoo from 10 a.m. to noon July 29.

Meanwhile, other branches will have various parties, wild animals and music.

It’s a fitting way to start the wrapup of a busy summer of mySummer programming at the library’s branches, according to Erica Grossman, Anythink Libraries’ creative lead.

“The events tend to be individual based on the branches and how they choose to celebrate with their individual communities,” she said. “But all of them are celebrations of the end of mySummer.”

MySummer is the Anythink Library system’s annual experience program.

“We kind of took the idea of your traditional summer reaading program and turned it on its head,” she said.

Programs are designed to provide opportunities for customers of all ages to foster their curiosity with ideas and inspiration and to explore new ways to see ordinary objects. The partners for this year’s events included the Denver Zoo, Exploration Universe and the Kalama Polynesian Dance.

Every Anythink Library will celebrate their mySummer Finale at the end of July, each with unique events and entertainment. The celebration is open to the public for all ages and prior registration is not required.

“It’s a way to celebrate with everyone who has been coming to the programs since the end of May,” she said. “They celebrate those folks, they celebrate with them and wrap up the summer together and talk about the different experiences we’ve had. And, it’s a way to just have fun.”
