My background

I grew up in California and I’ve been in Colorado for eight or nine years. I live in Highlands Ranch.

I studied manufacturing at California State University, Chico. I was a manufacturer at a sign shop for a while and then an electrician. I’ve been teaching for 20 years.

My role at STEM

I am the department chair for engineering. I organize industry partnerships to keep the engineering industry relevant for students. We work with industries to help keep our curriculum current and to set up opportunities for students — internships, job shadowing, talking with experts about challenges and ground breaking news.

In Highlands Ranch, we have been working with Panther, an advanced manufacturing company right up the street. We schedule tours to show students the equipment and they also donate some equipment to us — it’s not just leftover junk, it’s actually state-of-the-art engineering equipment.

Working with kids

My favorite thing about teaching is that I get to encourage kids to use their skills that they are learning to make the world a better place. It’s fun — these kids are phenomenal to work with.

My hobbies

I really enjoy fly-fishing. I tie my own flies. I also spend a lot of time in the summer wakeboarding at Chatfield Reservoir with my family.
