Stargate teacher earns national recognition

Meaghan Walsh,a teacher at Thornton’s Stargate School has been named a 2018 AGS Geography Teacher Fellow by the American Geographical Society.

Walsh teaches Advanced Placement Human Geography at Stargate School. She is one of 50 teachers selected from across the United States to participate in this third year of the initiative.

She will attend the AGS Fall Symposium on Nov. 15 and 16, 2018 at Columbia University in New York City. The Symposium provides Teacher Fellows with the opportunity to gain valuable cutting-edge content knowledge and awareness of the real-world geographic workplace skills demanded by today’s geospatial companies.

Young professionals sought for Chamber awards

The Metro North Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations for young entrepreneurs, between the ages of ages of 21 and 45, who have had an impact on and maintained leadership in a company or organization for a their Rock Stars of the Rockies awards.

The award ceremony is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the St. Anthony North Health Campus Foyer, 14300 Orchard Parkway in Westminster.

Multiple sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations who want to align their brand and mission with these incredible young professionals and support a great, growing community in the Metro North region.

9Health Fair returns to North Suburban Medical Center

Residents can visit doctors, community organizations and more than 50 vendors during the 9Health Fair from 8 a.m to noon Oct. 13 at the North Suburban Medical Center, 9191 Grant St., Thornton.

The health fair is being co-sponsored by North Suburban Medical Center in partnership with the Metro North Chamber of Commerce.

It offers important health screenings available at a very low cost. North Suburban doctors, pharmacists and pediatric specialists will be on hand to answer questions and provide referrals as needed.

Screenings include blood chemistry and blood count screenings, bone health education and ultrasound screenings, colon cancer screening kits, foot screenings and other tests. Most tests are available for a nominal fee.
