Say it Loud, Say it Proud! Denver PrideFest Takes Over Civic Center Park June 16-17

DENVER, CO – Denver PrideFest, Colorado’s largest regional celebration of LGBT Pride, returns to Denver’s Civic Center Park June 16-17. The free festival features live entertainment on three stages and more than 200 vendors offering crafts, food and drink. One of Denver’s largest festivals, Denver PrideFest expects to host more than 350,000 guests over the third weekend in June.

Proceeds from Denver PrideFest support the GLBT Community Center of Colorado (“The Center”), a non-profit organization that serves more than 47,000 people annually at its facility in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood with programs for LGBT youth, seniors, Colorado’s transgender community, and training and legal programs. The festival is The Center’s largest annual fundraiser.

Highlights include:

Coors Light PrideFest Parade

Stepping off from Cheesman Park and traveling via Colfax to Civic Center

Grand Marshals: Charlie Craig and David Mullins

David and Charlie, along with Charlie’s mother, visited masterpiece Cakeshop in July of 2012 to order a cake for their upcoming wedding reception. Upon learning that the cake was for a same-sex wedding, the shop’s owner immediately informed the couple that he would not make a cake for them because of his religious beliefs. With the help of the ACLU of Colorado, the couple brought their case first to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission and ultimately the U.S. Supreme Court. Through many setbacks, they have stood their ground and pursued this case for more than five years. Following oral arguments in December 2017, the Court is expected to hand down a decision in the case in June of 2018.

The Coors Light PrideFest Parade is the centerpiece of Denver PrideFest. Featuring more than 200 entries, the parade celebrates the color and diversity of the LGBTQ community and the many groups, religious institutions and businesses that support it.
