There may not have been any snow last weekend at Carpenter Park but there was ice.

The City of Thornton kicked off their annual WinterFest holiday celebration Dec. 8 with a Christmas tree lighting, food, music, a grove a Christmas trees and live Santas Village and a temporary ice rink.

This was the 16th year Thornton hosted the three day festival. The city decorated more than 475 trees in the park. It continued Saturday with a 5K footrace and concluded Sunday with more music and food.
