Colorado Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer leads the Colorado District 8 Republican primary nomination, ahead of three other candidates, including Thornton Mayor Jan Kulmann, in unofficial results.
Early election results show Kirkmeyer winning 40.9% of the vote, while Kulmann received 22.8%, Lori Saine 19.6% and Tyler Allcorn at 16.7%.
Kirkmeyer, a former Weld County commissioner, will face Colorado State Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the November election.
District 8 will be the newest Colorado seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, created after the 2020 Census and a year-long redistricting process.
The district is considered the most diverse U.S. House District in Colorado and is expected to be one of the most competitive in the nation this year.
More than 40% of active registered voters in the district are unaffiliated, and the rest are about evenly split between the Democratic and Republican parties.
