Not just a hat
Westminster City Councillor DeMott makes a brave case trying to explain why he publicly wore a hat expressing support for the ‘Three-Percenters’.
They are a far-right anti-government militia group that has been designated by the Canadian government as a ‘most dangerous extremist group’ and by the FBI as ‘people who ascribe to extreme anti-government, pro-gun beliefs’. Councillor DeMott has stated his horror at learning that some of the terrorists who stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6 were Three-Percenter group members.
In today’s political climate the establishment or support of a group that advocates armed resistance to our duly elected government inevitably attracts and emboldens those who feel they are not subject to a democratically established government and the rule of law. Councillor DeMott’s attempt to distance himself after the fact from the inevitable activities of treasonous thugs is a weak and disingenuous posture. He should have known better.
