Tiger stripes
Nice of Bruce Baker, in his recent letter to the editor, to switch registration from Republican to Unaffiliated. So now he’s non-partisan?
It takes more than checking a box on a website to change the tiger’s stripes. Let’s see what council candidate Baker has to say in his recent reply to Bill Christopher’s question about the recall (‘Could the recall have been avoided?’ Window, Aug. 19, pp. 12-13). Bruce appears to think he has been cheated by having to pay higher rates for higher use – what he calls ‘outrageous block-tier’ pricing. More, ever the conspiracy theorist, he sees in the progressive rate structure a nefarious plot to bring more people into Westminster by fooling others into ‘voluntarily’ using less water, which in his view, ‘free[s] up water for new apartments.’
So I guess there’s a fixed amount of water and Bruce wants it all for himself and his friends below cost in order to allow everyone expansive lawns which he calls ‘green landscapes.’ But actually, tiered pricing creates price signals under conditions of scarcity such as desert climate and drought.
Next, Bruce implies it’s corrupt to make money building housing for all those the council is nefariously freeing up water for. Yes, Bruce, people develop property to make money.
So no, it’s still the same Baker. Candidate Baker, whatever his voter registration, should never get anywhere the city Council chamber as Councillor. Please remember that in your vote this November.
