We need to protect our air
This summer and fall have we have seen day after day of warnings that the air we breathe is unhealthy, mostly due to the wild fires here in Colorado and other western states. Air that is safe to breathe is on many minds. It certainly has been on mine.
My husband and I have committed to doing what we can to help improve the quality of our air. We downsized from two cars to one hybrid vehicle that uses less gas and produces less pollution. Our second vehicle is an e-bike that I mostly use for trips to the store, to visit the parks and meet friends in Northglenn.
We in Northglenn are impacted by the traffic that passes through our community. I believe that electrifying our transportation sector needs to be wide ranging. We need more electric buses, trucks, personal vehicles, and public fleets throughout or state and region. Colorado is already seeing utilities like Xcel Energy put forward bold plans to begin developing the infrastructure our state needs to support an electric future.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated just how important clean air is for all of us. Clean air is particularly important for individuals and families that live near highways and congested roads. Clean vehicles will help make communities like Northglenn safer and healthier in addition to saving money on healthcare costs.
We all need and deserve clean air and less air pollution, regardless of where we live.
Katherine E. Goff, Northglenn
