Centennial author Emily Wortman-Wunder, who lives near Koelbel Library, won in the recent Colorado Book Awards contest, sponsored by Colorado Humanities, in the category of Best Short Story Collection for “Not a Thing to Comfort You.” Descriptive words: “From a highway death on an isolated peak to the intrigues of a small town orchestra, this debut collection explores how nature, damaged, fierce and unpredictable, worms its way into lives ...” This book also won the Iowa Short Fiction Award.
Weekends on Main
“Weekends on Main” in downtown Littleton promise some pleasant evenings out for dinner and a stroll. It’s a good idea to make a reservation at your restaurant of choice. There will be chairs and tables on sidewalks and in the street. (Parking on side streets, which will be open across Main, we’re told.)
Malley Senior Recreation Center
Malley Senior Recreation Center, 3380 S. Lincoln St. in Englewood, suggests you make an appointment when you want to visit there to use the gym and other facilities. Open Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. (Cleaning from 1 to 4.). 303-762-2660.
Western Welcome Week
Western Welcome Week’s dates are Aug. 7 to 16 and the popular art and craft show in downtown Littleton is scheduled to happen on the 16th. Many have reserved booth space, and more space is available, according to organizer Cindy Murphy. Stay tuned for other WWW news. 303-794-4870.
Littleton’s Bemis Library has started an online chat service. See Bemis.marmot.org. Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can chat with a librarian about titles and recommendations, request books and make an appointment to pick up at the back door. Summer reading programs have begun and children and adults may join in. Check online about book clubs. Arrange for curbside pickup here and at Douglas County and Arapahoe County Libraries and Englewood Library. Returned books will be quarantined for three days until they’re safe to handle again.
Town Hall doings
Town Hall Arts Center, 2450 W. Main St. in Littleton, will have a person in the box office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Operations suspended otherwise at present. 303-794-ARTS.
Greenwood Village artist
Artist Patricia Aaron of Greenwood Village has her art displayed at Space Gallery, 400 Santa Fe Drive, Denver. Space will open a new exhibit on July 10.

The Depot Art Center in Littleton features a member show online. We haven’t yet heard about the Littleton Fine Arts Guild’s plans for Western Welcome Week, but hope perhaps the Depot can be open by then??? See depotartgallery.org.
That windy day
Paris Street Market was pretty much blown away on the first Saturday in June at Aspen Grove, but we’ll hope for a better July show.
