The Littleton Museum at 6028 S. In the galleries, the 56th annual juried “Own an Original” is open through Dec. 31, with art submitted by artists and selected by a juror hired by the Littleton Fine Arts Committee. (This series of exhibits was started by early art committees in the hopes that local folks might find it a good spot to buy holiday gifts for family and friends, and provide an outlet for area artists.)
The museum's shop is also a good place to find unique gifts..
Also in the galleries: “The Secret Life of Clothes,” an exhibit about the life cycle of clothing from fiber to finished garment, sale to storage, to finally, mending, storage or reuse. A variety of fashions as well as tools — materials and context on how clothes were made, cared for, mended and stored. More on this here ...
Note that a call for artists went out Nov. 1 for entries for the 56th annual “Eye of the Camera” on Cafe, callforentry.org. The “Space to Wonder” opening will be Jan. 20 and the exhibit will run through March 12. Juror is Rupert Jenkins. Apply by midnight, Dec. 16.
Tickets go on sale Nov. 20 for members of Friends of the Library/Museum and for the public on Nov. 27 for the annual Holiday Evening on the Farm, a flashback to the 1860s, with luminarias and bonfires lighting the paths, a wagon ride, snacks, stories, costumed interpreters and more (my personal favorite). The date is Dec. 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Get advance tickets — they may sell out...They will be available online or at the museum and library desks for cash or checks.
The livestock currently in residence: two new Berkshire boars, ages four years and eight months old, who reside with Blanche, a gilt, who has not yet born piglets. The boars need names and suggestions from fans are welcomed.
Are the animals OK in the cold? Yes, they are happy and well cared for, says a recent museum release. “The chickens have heat lamps and their water is warmed, and Julie the mule gets extra hay ... Livestock including Julie the Mule, Ernest the Donkey, Fitzgerald and Ford the Oxen, Jed and Ferdinand, the Rams, Bud the Bull, June the Cow, Blanche the Pig, and the sheep flock — all get straw beds to bundle down into and extra calories to generate needed body heat and water troughs are warmed ...”

Finally, the notice reports that nearly 10,000 visited the recent harvest festival, where 900 locally grown pumpkins were sold, 1,140 cupcakes were gobbled up by children, along with 70 gallons of cider and 90 pounds of popcorn! This annual event was hosted by 79 volunteers from the Friends of the Library/Museum, a longtime local group which we heartily support. (Membership information at the museum and library desks.)
