A hit and run in Westminster on Jan. 19 killed one person, a Westminster Police Department press release said.
Officers arrested suspect Erik Bryant Alvarenga Jan. 20 for the crime. Police believe that Alvarenga was travelling southbound on Federal Boulevard when he hit an adult male walking along 70th Avenue. Alvarenga allegedly fled the scene after the accident.
First responders transported the victim to the hospital, where he died as a result of injuries. Law enforcement hasn’t publicly released his name yet.
Investigators found Alvarenga after a citizen notified police of the possible location of the Ford. Investigators believe they properly identified Alvarenga and his car based on the vehicle’s damage.
Alvarenga is in the Adams County Detention Facility. Police have recommended charges of a hit and run, vehicular homicide and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
