On the heels of the state Democratic and GOP state assembly and convention, the Jeffco Clerk and Recorder’s Office has mailed updated 2012 voter information cards to registered voters.
“This can help to improve overall awareness,” Pam Anderson, Jeffco clerk and recorder, said in a prepared statement. “It provides quite a bit of information for voters. It’s something they should definitely keep an eye out for, and hold onto once they get it.”
She said the card contains information regarding individual voter registration, new voting districts as a result of redistricting, service center locations and mail-in ballot drop-off locations for the upcoming primary election, which will be conducted by mail only.
Anderson said it is particularly important for this election cycle to get information to people early, since many of the House and congressional districts were redrawn as a part of last year’s redistricting and reapportionment process. In addition, she said, this year’s June 26 primary election falls on an earlier date than in previous years.
Voters who have not signed up for permanent mail-in ballot status are provided with an application as part of the mailing.
Those interested in becoming a permanent mail-in voter or applying for a mail ballot for the presidential election in November must fill out the application and return it.
In all, Anderson estimates, more than 200,000 Jeffco voters are permanent mail-in voters — a number expected to rise as more voters continue to take advantage of the mail-in voting process.
“This is another great opportunity for voters to sign up to have a paper ballot delivered by mail for all future Jefferson County elections,” she said. “It gives them another chance to vote from the convenience of home.”
