Bus travel along RTD's northern Federal Boulevard routes will get more accessible after Westminster City Council unanimously approved an agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Denver Regional Council of Governments to build or reconstruct 12 bus stops.
It comes after a study was finished regarding multimodal transportation on Federal Boulevard, according to the agreement councilors approved March 13.
“The Study identified the need for improved pedestrian infrastructure, including the construction or reconstruction of existing bus stops which do not meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act,” reads the meeting’s agenda.
The new and/or improved bus stops will be between 52nd Avenue and 120th Avenue and will be ADA-compliant with benches, bike racks and trash cans. They will also have concrete bus pads to protect the roadway from bus wear and tear.
According to the agenda, the hope is the new bus stops will lead to higher transit ridership and improved air quality. It will also help shift from “non-single occupant modes.”
Westminster will need to give $100,000 and $779,000 will come from DRCOG.
