‘We Love Westy’ effort back for third year

Posted

A Westminster Chamber of Commerce program hopes to get shoppers out and spending locally this holiday season, offering a chance to win with each dollar spent.

“We Love Westy continues to be a successful annual program,” said Juliet Abdel, president and CEO of the Westminster Chamber. “For the last two years we have won national neighborhood champion awards through the shop small movement because of it. Our efforts have a big impact on small business, the community and our region.”

The chamber’s We Love Westy shop local campaign began Nov 11 and runs through Dec. 16 — roughly two weeks on either side of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.

Small Business Saturday began as a effort in 2010 to encourage people to shop at their neighborhood businesses. Cities and business groups across Colorado get involved , offering events and specials discounts to encourage shoppers to keep their money in their own community.

The Westminster Chamber adds a wrinkle to the statewide effort. People that shop in participating stores will get a ticket with a number on it. Winners will be drawn after Christmas at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 and will be notified via the chamber’s Facebook page, http://facebook.com/westminstercc.

Three ticket holders will split a $5,000 prize: the first place winner gets $3,000, second place gets $1,500 and the third place winner gets $500 and winning one prize does not disqualify a shopper from winning others. People playing can win up to $5,000.

“People get rewarded for doing things they do already on a daily basis. We eat, we shop and we look for people to help us with our personal/business needs - why not local?” Abdel said.

Participating merchant have gift bag giveaway and other items to give to any customer who drops by on small business Saturday.
