Westminster CPA John Coet dies


Noted Westminster tax accountant John Robert Coet died March 25.

He was 74.

John started his own accounting practice with his wife, Fran in 1986. That firm, Coet2CPAs, exists to this day and, provides tax and accounting services. John proudly possessed both the Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner strove every day to live up to the expectations of his extended family, his employees and his many clients.

He was born in Evanston, Illinois to George Coet and Rose Bolanger in February 1945. John loved football, and made Chicago All-City his senior year in high school, playing a game at Soldier Field.

After receiving a full football scholarship to Northwestern, his knee was blown out in the second game of his first year, putting an end to his football career. He joined the Air Force in 1964, and served for four years.

John's parents had relocated to Colorado, and John went to work in Boulder and to school at Metropolitan State to provide for his young family.

After graduating from Metro State summa cum laude, John worked for the Internal Revenue Service for seven years before returning to Boulder to serve as controller for Watts Hardy Dairy.

After that, he continued in the accounting profession working at the Lowry Finance Center for the Department of Defense. He served in the Army National Guard for several years, and was an Adjunct Professor in Statistics and Accounting courses for Metro State and Regis University.

In 1983, John and Fran married, blending their families.

John is survived by his wife Fran: Five children - Kenneth Coet his wife Becky, James Coet and his wife Julie, Karne Brashear Hall and her husband Jeff, Nathan Brashear and his wife Andrea, and Elizabeth Coet: and 17 grandchildren; Kennedy, Justice, Sheridan, Autumn, Lawson, Mathew, Aidan, Mackenzie, Maddox, Noah, Alexis, Liberty, Jasmine, Shannon, Elaina, Joseph, and Josh. John was “Bumpa” to all of them - a unique designation for a truly unique and loved man. He will be missed.

John will be remembered at services on at 12:30 p.m. March 30 Westminster Church of Nazarene, 3501 West 104th Ave. in Westminster, followed by a gathering at 2 p.m. at the Coet 2 CPAs offices at 10860 Dover Street, Suite 2500, Westminster.
